Shingo Ochiai is active in a wide range of musical fields, including solo performance, chamber music, orchestral music, and early music. He has appeared at numerous prestigious music festivals, including the Spring Festival in Tokyo—where he participated in both the Riccardo Muti Italian Opera Academy and the Tokyo Spring Festival Orchestra—La Folle Journée, and the Yuzuko Horigome Academy Orchestra.
He received Third Prize and the Special Award in the Strings Division of the Japan Players Competition, and has also won prizes at the Sendai K Music Competition and the Osaka International Music Competition.
After graduating from the Department of Philosophy at Waseda University, he completed a Master’s degree in Cello Performance at the Toho Gakuen School of Music Graduate School.
Ochiai studied cello with Hiromi Uekusa, Ken-ichiro Yasuda, Hideki Kitamoto, and Yo Kigoshi, and chamber music with Kazuhide Isomura and Shigeo Neriki. He is currently studying baroque cello and viola da gamba with Emmanuel Girard in the Early Music Department at Toho Gakuen, while continuing his studies in Paris under Christophe Coin.
